The announcement many have been waiting for, the sequel to one of
video gamings biggest selling, most awarded and critically acclaimed
games for 2006 has been established.
During the Wednesday night
Game Developers Choice Awards ceremony in San Francisco, Cliff "Cliffy
B" Bleszinski, Games designer for Epic games collected four awards for
the
gritty Gears of War, including Game of the Year.
The next morning Cliffy B was able to make a 9AM media presentation
where he was able to confirm that the over 3 Million selling Xbox 360
exclusive would have a follow up by Epic games.
There are no details at this time,
gamespot have run with the story, which includes coverage of the Cliffy B description of the original concepts behind
Gears of War.
These include the fact that originally the game was to be more of
territorial control style of shoot-em-up with vehicles and more complex
squad control system including morale.
The game was also formerly to be in first person perspective, but once
the graphics engine was installed Cliffy B and crew realised; "it would
be a crime not to see" the game's hero. This lead to the
Resident Evil style over the shoulder camera position in the game.
Microsoft have already hinted at a trilogy of "Gears" games, and given
the success of the title, undoubtedly a trilogy will be the minimum.
